What Are Eyelash Extensions

December 26, 2017

ash extensions are an extension of your own natural lashes. Individual synthetic eyelashes are applied one-by-one to each of your own individual natural lashes (classic look) to give you a thicker, fuller lash line. Or the new Volume Lash technique in which 2-6 individual lashes are applied to each individual natural eyelash for a very thick lashline (this is most recommended for clients with less natural eyelashes).

Natural hair is not recommended since natural hair will not hold a curl like a synthetic lash.

A natural hair would have to be cut blunt giving it an un-natural non-tapered end. Natural hair is porous and can hold bacteria.  A synthetic lash is non-porous. Synthetic lashes come in a variety of color, lengths, thickness and curl, each with one tapered end and one blunt end.  The most common eyelash extensions are PBT or plastic, these can be hard and coarse. Silk or Faux Mink lashes mimic a natural lash, they are soft, pliable, fluttery. These are a top choice for the most natural look.

Lash extensions are not “strip lashes”, nor are they “cluster” lashes applied directly to your eyelid… Lash extensions, if applied properly, are lightweight, not touching the skin, non-painful and they are applied to each individual natural lash- there should be no lashes stuck together or clumping of the natural lashes when properly applied.

Improperly applied lash extensions can cause undue stress of the natural lash line to include lash loss, follicular damage, corneal abrasions and vision loss. It is important to do your research when looking for a lash extensionist to apply lash extensions to your own lashes.
